The Central Council of EDON strongly denounces the cowardly murders of Palestinian protesters that took place in the Gaza Strip. On March 30th, a crowd of Palestinians gathered early in the morning on the border of Gaza Strip and Israel, to commemorate the Land Day with mass protests.
The Land Day is a day of great importance and symbolism for the Palestinians, who have been banished from their land and became refugees in their own country. The heroic people of Palestine are fighting and demanding the withdrawal of Israeli troops from all occupied Palestinian territories, while they demand the recognition of their legitimate rights for an independent, sovereign, viable, Palestinian state that will become a full member of the United Nations, at the borders of 1967 with its capital East Jerusalem.
Israel once again revealed its true colours by launching an assault on the tens of thousands of protesters. The statement by Israeli army chief Gandhi Eisencott is characterized by its cynicism, declaring that if the Palestinians approach the border, they will be shot. The result of the Israeli army's attack so far, is 16 dead and more than 1500 injured.
In the face of the continuing crimes against the Palestinians, the leaders of Turkey and Israel engaged in a cynic and hollow contest on who is defending international legitimacy and universal morality. The peoples of the countries in our region, are very well aware of the true nature of imperialist and cannot be fooled by their public relation tactics. The expansionist policies followed by both Turkey and Israel, have led the peoples of the region to multiple bloodbaths. Neither Cyprus nor Palestine needs wolves for patrons. The peoples will fight proudly and they will win.
We stand in solidarity with the heroic Palestinian people and their struggle. We call the International Community, the EU and the UN to abandon their middle-of-the-road stance. They should respect the right of the refugees to return to their land, they should face the reality of the murders of Palestinians condemn them, by exercising pressure towards Israel.
