Dear comrades,
On behalf of our members, the Cypriot people and youth, the Central Council of EDON would like to express its warmest, fraternal and militant greetings to the 8th Congress of the Union of Communist Youth – Brazil (UJC). We are confident that the discussions that preceded this 8th Congress reinforced the way for UJC to go forward for the struggles and the rights of the youth and the people of Brazil. We understand the difficulties of the struggles in each country within the todays international framework and we are certain that the discussions of the Congress will be decisive for the development and improvement of your struggles.
On this occasion we would like to express our solidarity and our support to the people and youth of Brazil. The attacks on the youth and the peoples’ rights, not only in Brazil but in the region in general, are continuous. The bourgeoise class in today’s capitalist crisis framework is becoming more offensive and more brutal against the youth and the working movement. Under these circumstances our organizations duties become even greater. We stand in solidarity with your struggles. We stand in solidarity with the fight of every organization. We stand with the anti-imperialist movement common action.
We also take this opportunity to inform all the comrades who are present to your congress, the Cypriot youth are still victims of imperialist crimes. The people and youth of Cyprus still face the consequences of the imperialist intervention in our Country. The coup d’ etat in Cyprus by the extremist right organization EOKA B, motivated by the Greek military junta and the invasion of Turkey that followed in 1974, were both led by NATO and CIA. This has led to a de facto division of the island and the people of Cyprus. Nevertheless, we are still fighting for liberation and reunification of our country and we value greatly the unity of struggle among the fighting people and youth of the world. At the same time, imperialism has launched a bloody, insulting and warlike attack on its areas of influence, to stop maintaining markets, looking for new ways of communicating and accessing raw materials. This worsening of war policy and the increase in exploitation levels have resulted in massive migration to Europe.
The youth of EDON has faith to the struggles of the youth worldwide. Especially through WFDY we should reinforce our common struggle against imperialism. We understand that international solidarity is a powerful tool in the hands of the youth of the world in our struggle for peace and social justice.
Long live international Solidarity!
Long live the anti-imperialist struggle!
Long live WFDY!
