EDON in solidarity with the youth and people of Cuba
The days we are going through have made it clear that the battle against the coronavirus pandemic can only be won through international cooperation and solidarity. This pandemic affects one country after another and as it progresses it reveals the capitalist system’s weaknesses. In this situation, a small Caribbean island continues to hold high the banner of solidarity and friendship of the peoples. Cuba has been facing the blockade imposed by the US for six decades, during which time it has been producing thousands of doctors and healthcare workers and has developed treatments and vaccines for dozens of diseases. Cuba is a small country that sends brigades of doctors and healthcare workers who carry medical supplies to help other peoples during pandemics and natural disasters.
In contrast, the "great powers" of the planet send tens of thousands of bombs and soldiers to kill and exploit other countries, spending billions on wars instead of building health systems to take care of their own citizens. These are the very same countries that are unable to express solidarity and cooperate to confront the pandemic.
EDON expresses its solidarity with the people of Cuba against the US blockade. This heroic people, despite the slanderous ongoing propaganda launched against the Cuban Revolution, has proved to the whole world - with its achievements in the fields of education, health, culture and democracy - the qualitative superiority of socialism. We will continue to contribute to the development of international initiatives to support the Cuban people, whose example gives hope to the struggle for achieving international co-operation, solidarity and peace.
