With indignation, we became aware that the Republic of Cyprus abstained from the UN General Assembly resolution on the creation of a mechanism for the international protection of Palestinian civilians. The Cypriot government's abstinence at the vote of the General Assembly of the UN is a shame for our people and the history of the country. The longstanding attitude of all governments, so that Cyprus remains a bridge of peace for the peoples of the region, has been shattered by the unspeakable embarrassing attitude of the right-wing government of Anastasiades-DISY.
As EDON, we do not even ask for an answer as to what government's disagreement with the creation of a mechanism for the international protection of Palestinian civilians in the occupied Palestinian territories. Nor if it does condemn the recent actions of the Israeli army in blocked Gaza. We know very well that the servile attitude towards US-NATO orders is a structural element in the DNA of this government.
From our side, however, with pride and nothing to shame about, we will continue to stand by and support the heroic struggling Palestinian people. We will continue, at any occasion, to show the solidarity of the Cypriot youth to every struggling people in the world. The attitude of this right-wing government does not represent us; and for us the struggle for peace, freedom and independence is unnegotiable.
